Michigan Sales Tax is repealed!
December 5th, 2007
After many last minute negotiations, the Michigan Service Tax was appealed just after it went into effect. A secondary amnesty bill was also passed to protect anyone who did not “collect tax” during the 16 hour period that it was in effect. However, business owners are not out of the water. A 22% surcharge to the Michigan Business Tax will be levied against businesses. Dynamic Edge will continue to work to understand the implications of this additional surcharge, so check back as details unfold.

The Michigan Service Tax Goes into Effect Dec 1st - How will it affect your business?
November 1st, 2007
As most of you are aware, Michigan lawmakers passed a 6% tax on certain services in the State of Michigan beginning December 1, 2007. As a service business that supports many other service businesses, Dynamic Edge has been and is continuing to do substantial research into what services are covered under this new tax. We estimate the new service tax will affect fewer than 10% of Dynamic Edge’s services.

We anticipate many of our clients may need some assistance complying with the new service tax requirements. Dynamic Edge has accounting professionals experienced with the major accounting systems (QuickBooks, Dynamics GP, etc.) available to assist with any required accounting system changes.

Dynamic Edge Announces Winners of Technology Grants! $7,500 Awarded!
July 3rd, 2007
Dynamic Edge is pleased to announce the winners of its 2007 Technology Grants. This year, Dynamic Edge awarded $7,500 worth of grants to local non-profit organizations. The Dynamic Edge Technology Grant program exists to help local non-profit organizations fund a project they may have put aside due to funding issues, lack of expertise, or both. Dynamic Edge aims to assist local non-profits by either kick starting a specific IT project, helping the organization assess and budget for its long term IT needs, or assessing and maintaining an existing technology project.

In the wake of the funding gap to local non-profits after the Pfizer closing, Dynamic Edge feels that small business need to step up to the funding challenge. Quality of life and community are very important to the company, and we have made community service part of our business goals.

The 2007 DE Tech Grant Winners are:

Hope Clinic, Ypsilanti – Provides health care to the uninsured, including additional services such as free medical and dental clinics, a food bank, a weekend meal program, free laundry facilities, provision of personal care items, and emergency financial assistance to help prevent evictions and utility shutoffs. Dynamic Edge will provide a technology assessment and a long-term technology plan.

826 Michigan, Ann Arbor – Dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Dynamic Edge will be setting up and training 826 Michigan staff on how to use QuickBooks, a financial software for small businesses.

Special Days Camp, Ann Arbor/Jackson – Provides a safe and memorable camping opportunity for children, siblings and their families who have experienced cancer. Dynamic Edge will be redesigning the Special Days Camp Web site and streamlining the public face of the organization.

National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, Ann Arbor — Aims to prevent kidney disease and improve the lives of those living with kidney disease by providing focused community-based prevention and awareness programs and services. Dynamic Edge will be assisting with a Citrix Server installation. A Citrix Server allows applications to be housed centrally on one server, rather than be loaded individually to each computer in the organization.

Firehouse Museum, Ypsilanti — Preserves and interpret Michigan’s fire fighting history and teaches and promotes fire safety and prevention. Dynamic Edge will network the Fire House’s computers and assist in setting up a public computer workstation to access the Museum’s library and archive.

DE Founder, Bruce McCully, wins Michigan & Midwest SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award!
March 30th, 2007
Dynamic Edge founder, Bruce McCully, to be recognized at the 2007 Michigan Celebrates Small Business Award ceremony as SBA of Michigan’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year, on April 12, 2007. McCully will also be recognized as the Midwest Region, Region 5, Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Region 5 includes Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

Growing up on a small farm in Alden, Michigan, the sale of a ribbon-winning 4H Black Angus steer financed McCully’s first laptop in high school. Hoping to become a doctor, he pursued a degree in microbiology from the University of Michigan. As a volunteer for St Joseph Mercy Hospital, McCully realized that the medical profession was not his passion. He switched majors, and studied Computer Engineering, eventually graduating with a BSE in Computer Engineering. Hoping to gain experience to later secure a “real job,” McCully founded Dynamic Edge while still a senior in college in 1999, at the age of 22.

When more and more companies were looking to reduce personnel and outsource their IT services during the burst of the tech bubble in the late 90s, McCully saw a demand for a service. Like any enterprising entrepreneur, he took the opportunity to start a business. However, McCully says he owes his success to the luck of being in the right place at the right time. A cold-call marketing campaign and compounding word of mouth referrals created an explosion of growth in revenue and personnel.

As Dynamic Edge has grown, so has its owner. Once inexperienced, unsure, and unproven, Bruce McCully, has now developed into a strategic, thoughtful leader of 34 employees and a company that has sustained an average of 64% revenue growth each year for the last four years. No longer keeping a struggling startup alive, McCully now has the opportunity to tackle the growth issues of a successful business.
